Thirty years, one crew.
Granite Peak Builders started in 1996 as three carpenters framing other builders' houses. It is fourteen people now, and most of them have been here longer than ten years.
How we work
Carpenters on the payroll.
Framing, siding, trim and doors are done by people who work here. Concrete, plumbing, electrical and drywall go to the same four or five outfits we have been calling since the early days. We pay them inside a week, which is why they pick up the phone.
If a project needs an architect or an interior designer, we will say so at the first visit rather than at the third.

How it went.
A framing crew of three
Dana Whitlock takes out a licence and spends the first years framing houses for other builders.
The first house start to finish
A client asks the crew to finish what they framed. The company has run whole builds ever since.
Estimating moves in-house
Scopes and prices stop coming off a spreadsheet and start coming from the person who will run the job.
A yard of our own
An office and a materials yard in Oxnard, so deliveries stop living on the client's driveway.

Ventura County.
One office, in Oxnard. If a job is much more than forty minutes from it we will usually say no, because the crew would spend the day in a truck.

We are usually looking for a finish carpenter.
Hourly, on the books, tools supplied. Every site is inside Ventura County, so nobody commutes over a pass.
